Colussi believes in it and adopts the innovation of high-barrier compostable packaging

September 2020 – The new compostable packaging in Mater-Bi and paper is now used for the Natura Ricca savory snacks, produced by Colussi Group under the Misura brand. The taste of the crunchy snack is preserved thanks to the package barrier properties which guarantee shelf-life and protection in ambient conditions.

The tasting tests carried out by the University of Pollenzo demonstrated that the products are as good as those stored in traditional packaging. The pack, while having the same performance as plastic, is made up of materials originating from renewable resources, that are Mater-Bi biopolymer and cellulose, and helps reduce the use of single-use plastic. The pack has received TÜV Austria certification for industrial composting and can therefore be recovered in the separate bio-waste collection. The innovation is the result of a research and development project pursued by Colussi in collaboration with Novamont, TicinoPlast, SAES Coated Films, Sacchital and the Flexible Packaging Hub of IMA.
